How to Take Care of Your Car (and Yourself) During a Heat Wave

When summer turns savage and the asphalt feels like it’s trying to cook your tires, both you and your car need some extra TLC. Extreme heat isn’t just uncomfortable — it can actually be dangerous for your vehicle (and your health). Here's how to beat the heat like a pro, even when it's hot as f@&# out there:
🚘 For Your Car:
1. Check Your Coolant (and Everything That Cools)
Your cooling system is working overtime in the heat. Check the coolant level and condition, and make sure there are no leaks. If your car’s running hotter than usual, get it inspected before it turns into a rolling sauna.
2. Test the Battery
Heat is harder on your battery than winter cold. Have it tested — many auto parts stores will do this for free — and look for signs of corrosion or bloating.
3. Keep Tires Properly Inflated
Hot pavement and under-inflated tires are a recipe for a blowout. Check pressure when tires are cold and inflate to the manufacturer’s spec (not what’s on the tire itself).
4. Park Smart
Whenever possible, park in the shade or use a sunshade. Your dashboard — and your butt — will thank you.
5. Don’t Ignore Warning Lights
If your check engine light comes on, especially with temperature spikes, get it checked out ASAP. That light could be warning you about something that heat just made worse.
🧊 For You:
1. Hydrate or Melt
Keep water in the car, preferably in a cooler. Dehydration can sneak up on you FAST — especially if your A/C decides to peace out mid-commute.
2. Don’t Leave Kids or Pets in the Car - Ever!
Even “just a minute” can turn deadly fast. Cars can hit 120°F inside in just 10 minutes. Leave no living thing behind.
3. Use Window Shades & Cloth Seat Covers
Protect your skin and sanity — sizzling hot leather seats are nobody’s idea of fun. And if your car has remote start, now’s the time to use it like the luxury it is.
4. Emergency Kit = Summer Edition
Add extra water bottles, electrolyte packs, and maybe even a personal fan to your glove box stash. Just in case you end up waiting for roadside help in the blazing sun.
Bottom Line:
A heat wave can fry more than your nerves — it can wreck your car if you're not careful. A few minutes of prevention now can save you a sweaty breakdown (literally) later.
Stay cool, drive smart, and maybe keep that seatbelt buckle out of direct sunlight unless you enjoy branding yourself.
If your car’s wilting in the heat and leaving you stranded, maybe it’s time for an upgrade — the smart way. 🚗☀️
